If you are interested in participating in one of the many clinical trials available
to CARE Center patients, please call the UCLA CARE Center Trials Screening Service at 310.206.6414. We are currently enrolling patients in the following studies:

ANTIRETROVIRAL THERAPIES FOR TREATMENT-EXPERIENCED PATIENTS

Treatment Naïve (never have taken HIV medications):

ACTG 5175: A study to test the effectiveness of a one daily Protease containing regimen and a once a day Non-nucleoside containing regimen in reducing and maintaining undetectable HIV viral loads.

ACTG 5202: A study looking at first choices of treatments for those who are HIV positive and ready to start HIV treatment.

ANTI-OPPORTUNISTIC INFECTION/AIDS RELATED CANCERS

AMC 034: Using EPOCH with Rituximab (an experimental chemotherapy) to treat Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in those with HIV.

AMC 036: A study using Halofuginone (experimental topical treatment) to treat Kaposi's Sarcoma in individuals with HIV.

AMC 038: A pilot study of the use of Valproic Acid for treating Kaposi's Sarcoma in individuals with HIV.

AMC 042: A study using Imatinib Mesylate to treat Kaposi's Sarcoma in individuals with HIV.

TO COMBAT OPPORTUNISTIC INFECTIONS

ACTG 5178: Uses anti-hepatitis C medications long-term to treat individuals who are coinfected with HIV and hepatitis C.

IMMUNE-BASED THERAPY AND GENE THERAPY

ACTG 5197: Using a Therapeutic Vaccine and Structured Treatment Interruptions to observe the effects on an individual's Viral Load.

Beta Blocker: Using Beta-blockers to see if they can inhibit HIV-1 viral replication in HIV positive individuals.

NEUROLOGY AND OTHER COMPLICATIONS

METABOLIC COMPLICATIONS

Lipoatrophy

*Zerit Study: A study of stavudine (Zerit®) levels inside cells and their relation to bodyshape changes.

Lipid Complications

ACTG 5209: A Study of the safety and effects of Ezetimibe (Zetia) in combination with Statin Therapy for the treatment of elevated LDL cholesterol in HIV Positive individuals.
