Consultation Core

The Consultation Core provides research consultation and facilitation to students, fellows, junior and senior investigators in the area of patient adherence to HIV regimens. Core faculty offer consultation on factors such as sexual risk taking, the effects of trauma and violence, substance abuse, neurological impairment and coping strategies that affect behavioral adherence to risk reduction strategies for affected and infected populations. Faculty also offer consultation on HIV strategies to improve health promotion in populations living with HIV/AIDS. The faculty has extensive expertise in developing research designs that promote the recruitment and retention of diverse populations. Additionally, Core faculty assist investigators in developing and/or writing components of their grant applications that specifically relate to the expertise of the CFAR faculty member.  Our team of investigators focuses on research that often includes the recruitment and retention of under served populations, reduction of risk behaviors, collaborations with community based organizations, clinics and stake holders and national organizations that seek expertise in socio-cultural approaches to HIV/AIDS prevention.  Until innovative therapies are successful, the broad inclusion of populations in behavioral interventions is the most effective HIV prevention strategy that our nation can promote.  Unlike other Cores, consultation with experienced investigators is provided free of charge for up to 6 hours.  If more assistance is needed, investigators are asked for a re-charge number and billed $75 per hour for additional help.
