UCLA
CFAR CORES
The UCLA AIDS Institute receives most of its infrastructure
support from the Centers for
AIDS Research (CFAR) program of the National Institutes
of Health. The program supports a multidisciplinary environment
that promotes basic, behavioral, clinical, and translational
research in prevention, detection, and treatment of HIV
infection and AIDS. The NIH is currently funding 21 Centers
for AIDS Research across the United States, of which the
UCLA CFAR is one of the largest.
Through its core facilities, the UCLA AIDS Institute
provides a pool of shared resources — such as technical
expertise, equipment and training — to AIDS researchers.
The shared resources facilitate interdisciplinary and international
collaborations, technology transfer through academic-industry
collaborations, dissemination of information on research
activities, and community outreach.
