THE
UCLA PACIFIC AIDS EDUCATION TRAINING CENTER
The UCLA/Pacific AIDS Education and Training Center (PAETC) provides
direct educational services to a broad range of health providers
in Southern California and has developed video and Internet training
modules used throughout the world.
The UCLA PAETC provides primary care professionals (Physicians,
Physician Assistants, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Dentists,
Dental Hygienists and Pharmacists) with the knowledge and skills
necessary to care for HIV-infected patients and to increase the

(888-448-4911) for Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) as well as
a National Perinatal HIV Consultation and Referral Service (800-448-8765).
The UCLA/Pacific AETC also provides a FAX consultation service
for physicians practicing in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara
Counties. Although our experts cannot offer opinions with regard
to specific patients, they can respond to general questions with
regard to diagnosis and management. The FAX number for consultations
is (310) 794-6097.
Minority AIDS Initiative (MAI) AIDS
Mental Health Training Program (AMHTP)
The MAI AMHTP provides education, training and capacity-building
services regarding the mental health aspects of HIV infection,
and includes a partnership with Bienestar Human Services and
the County of Los Angeles Department of Mental Health. Programs
trainings target nurses, but cross-training includes psychiatrists,
psychologists, therapists, social workers, residential care providers
and others. Although the trainings are also conducted within
the Level I-III framework, emphasis is placed on addressing mental
health issues in AIDS education, and include both traditional
and non-traditional providers of mental health services. This
program has also developed training modules focusing on the psychological,
psychiatric and neurological manifestations of HIV infection,
as well as the role of nurses and mental health providers in
assisting English and Spanish-speaking clients with medication
adherence and decision-making, as well as addiction counseling.
The UCLA PAETC continuously develops new training modules,
conducts on-going research, and works with other organizations
in the Southern California area to support and co-sponsor HIV
education and training programs for professionals. For more information,
