THE CARE CENTER'S MISSION
Providing the Best Possible Care
The physicians of the UCLA Clinical AIDS
Research and Education (CARE) Center have provided care
to thousands of individuals with HIV infection since the
first cases of this disease were reported at UCLA in 1981.
With leaders in basic science, clinical research, epidemiology,
and behavioral science, the UCLA AIDS Institute and the
CARE Center have consistently ranked in the top five institutions
in the nation for HIV research and patient care. New treatments
ranging from antiretroviral drugs, immune-based and genetic
therapies,
vaccines, and treatments for the complications of HIV have
been developed and evaluated at the CARE Center. We continue
to attract patients from Southern California and across
the country as we help to develop new, more effective,
and less toxic treatments for HIV and its associated diseases.
Our mission is to provide outstanding care, to conduct
research that brings the advances of science directly to
our patients, and to educate the new generation of doctors
and other healthcare professionals, both here and internationally,
in HIV treatment and in the conduct of clinical research
to combat this worldwide epidemic. Our vision for the future
has, as one of its key elements, the development of a state-of-the-art
facility for providing high-quality patient care to individuals
with HIV infection in a multidisciplinary, research- and
education-oriented clinic.
